SPEAKING OUT The only thing that will counteract the blizzard of lies is to create an avalanche of truths. Many people have spoken out eloquently about our government's alarming trends such as Senator Robert Byrd in his many speeches on the floor of the Senate, and Paul Krugman through his insightful editorials. Voices from outside have been especially astute about our condition, such as this amazing speech by Arundhati Roy When I saw Robert Greenwald's documentary "Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War", I knew this film had to be seen by more people. In late January of 2004, I put together a screening of "Uncovered" at the Westport Library. If you haven't yet seen it, you can find more about it at truthuncovered.com. It is a serious film featuring interviews with high-level government officials, CIA analysts, top Pentagon officials, and foreign service experts, all making a compelling case for the intentional misrepresentation and distortion of intelligence assessments by the Bush administration. After the screening, a public discussion was held with the audience. Excerpts of the discussion can be viewed by clicking on the two links below: |

| In April of 2003, Suzanne Sheridan invited me on to her public access program, "CT Bigshots". I participated in a roundtable discussion about the war and the run-up to it. Below is an excerpt from that broadcast: |

| In May of 2003, six weeks into the war, I attempted to sponsor a poetry event in my home town of Weston at the library. I had hoped to bring all of us together, to speak from our hearts about how we viewed and were affected by the spectre of this war. It was not a successful event in terms of numbers. Only about eight people showed up. I regret that I did not retain copies of the other poems. Here is my poem, as I read it aloud at a candlelight vigil the evening before we bombed Baghdad: | ||
